LINDOW’S full talent pool came to the fore as a fourth consecutive league win was achieved at the weekend.

The Upcast Lane men, who are second in Cheshire County League Division Two, needed lower order batsmen to dig them out of a hole in Saturday’s derby at Mobberley.

In hot conditions, the hosts went into bat first but Lindow’s bowlers performed well, led by Sultan Raja’s 5-33.

He was supported by Tim Young and Alex Matthews, who grabbed two wickets each. Mobberley finished 183 all out in the final over.

At 10-2 in reply Lindow needed to dig in and runs from Atiq Uz-Zaman (39), Major Khan (48) and Adam Bull (24) got them to a much healthier 115-3.

However, a flurry of wickets left the score at 120-6 and momentum had swung back to the home side.

Lindow’s strength is the depth in their squad and despite coming in lower down the batting order, Pete Hodge (29 not out) and Luke Unsworth (19 not out) showed their class to see Lindow home for a three-wicket victory.

They will be hoping to keep their run in tact when they host mid-table Hale Barns this Saturday.

The seconds welcomed Neston to Upcast Lane.

Openers Ian Park (59) and Matt Ramsden (21) gave the home side a good base and further runs from Charlie Williams (39) and David Kendrick (31) saw Lindow finish on 218-6 off their 50 overs.

Neston got off to a flier in reply, and despite two wickets for Khalid Ahmed and one for Liam Howarth, the visitors looked in control.

The game swung back Lindow’s way with the introduction of Mark Farrell, whose 5-32 made it a tight finish.

Although Neston were three runs short at the death, Lindow were unable to take the final two wickets so the game ended in an entertaining draw.

Lindow’s thirds were looking to make it three wins in a row at their Alderley Park ground as they welcomed Heaton Mersey Village.

The father-son combination of Rowan Day (5-12) and Joe Day (3-9) helped dismiss the visitors for 107.

In reply Lindow kept the scoreboard ticking over, but the wickets also kept falling as 66-5 became 96-8 leaving a tense finish.

An excellent innings from Simon Bolton (26 not out), supported by Simon Rowland (5 not out), saw Lindow home for the victory.

On Sunday the fourths made the short trip to take on Prestbury’s thirds and dismissed the home side for 105, with Paul Wilson (3-7), Tom Orr (2-11) and Rob Venables (2-22) leading the wicket-taking. Tom Wilson caught out five.

Pete Venables (38 not out) and Dean Cox (49 not out) steered Lindow home for a nine-wicket win to keep them top of the league.
