MIKE Easton came out on top in Alderley Edge Golf Club’s May Medal.

His 66 put him clear of Nigel Featherstone, 67, and Rick Ford, 68, in Division One.

Simon Allen also posted 66 in Division Two to finish ahead of Mike O’Regan, 69, and Simon Barber, 70.

A ladies medal at Alderley Edge was won by Liz McGuire with 77.

Helen Fitch followed with 78 and Mo Monk, Olwen Davies and Tracy Smith, were hot on their heels with 79.

A seniors stableford at Styal Golf Club was won by Malcolm Hollins with 41 points.

In the hunt were Brian Appleby, 40, and Robert Lynn, 39.

A Wednesday stableford at Styal had Ian Thomason first past the post with 36 points, finishing ahead of Ray Auton, 34, and Anton Bardsley, 33.

The latest round of the Styal ladies Summer Cup was won by Pat Chadwick after a card play-off on 15 points with Pat Millatt, one more than Yvonne Kelly and Gayle Blackburn.

Styal’s Alistair Waddell was locked on points with Poulton Park’s Phil Archer, Paul Granell (Vale Royal Abbey), and Olly Smith (Ashton on Mersey) in the individual pro section of the penultimate Alliance winter season fixture staged by Crewe Golf Club.

With players looking to gain vital points for the Alliance Order of Merit top spots, Archer took a big step to retaining his OoM trophy.

There was also a four-way tie for the top pro-am spot with the cpo on 41 points going in favour of Stamford’s Mark Smith and Martin Dwyer from Ben Thompson and Keith Caddick (Hazel Grove), Phil Archer with Hazel Grove’s Roy Campion and Craig Corrigan and Chris Ireland (Lymm).

No problems in the am am section as Malkins Bank duo Ian Farthing and Steve King strolled to victory as their 39-point haul took them four clear of Lee Warren (Northenden) and Dave Hemingway (Chorley) who won a cpo from Chorlton’s Don Milligan and Mike Fenton.

The competition also featured an Alliance debut for Alderley Edge professional Charles Le Sueur who enjoyed the experience.

Meanwhile, the Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs have a new two-year sponsorship with Robinson’s Brewery.

Wilmslow Golf Club’s Reg Maddock played a part in setting up the deal.

Cheshire secretary Peter Whitehead said: “The Cheshire board are excited about the sponsorship partnership with Robinsons and the money received will be given to various county activities throughout the year and Robinsons will be invited to take part in a range of county competitions and functions as part of the deal.

“Reg Maddock from Wilmslow Golf Club, who is responsible for marketing for Cheshire, and I met up with Ben Robinson, the Director of Sales for Robinsons, and Gill Yates, the brand manager, at their excellent museum in Stockport and were given great hospitality and time for a full discussion on the sponsorship.”

Robinson added: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs as Principal Sponsor for the next two years.

“This collaboration between two iconic and established Cheshire institutions is a good match and one which we believe will be mutually beneficial.

“Not only does this sponsorship provide the opportunity for Robinsons to build key relationships with 97 well-founded golf clubs across our Cheshire heartland, but there’s a great natural crossover of customers who enjoy a pint in our pubs and those who enjoy a round of golf – or a refreshing pint after a round of golf!

“A strong Golf Club is as important to any community as a good pub. Robinsons links well with the Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs on both a personal and professional level and we look forward to growing our presence and further generating awareness of Robinsons in the region.”
