A TEENAGER from Mobberley has been selected for an England squad to tour South Africa.

Cameron Redpath, a fly-half for Sale Sharks, becomes one of the national team’s youngest ever call-ups after he was picked by coach Eddie Jones.

He is one of seven newcomers.

However a knee injury has so far prevented him from taking part in a training camp at Brighton ahead of the Quilter Cup match against the Barbarians at Twickenham on Sunday.

“Cameron is a naturally-gifted ball player and a hard-working young athlete with the sort of competitive grit needed to make it at the very highest level,” said Giles Hetherington, head of rugby at King’s Macclesfield – Redpath’s former school.

“We’re is extremely proud to have played a part in his development.”

Redpath has previously been part of the Scottish set-up and his father, Bryan, is a former international north of the border.

He was born in France while his dad was playing there, and represented Scotland at under 16s level while a student at King’s.

His brother, Murray, is a talented rugby player too.

“They are certainly both made of the right stuff whether it’s English, Scottish or indeed French and like their dad we are proud of their achievements so far,” said Guy Mason, a former coach at the school.

England have named a 34-man squad for a three-test series, starting in Johannesburg, next month.

Redpath will act as an understudy to Owen Farrell (Saracens), George Ford (Leicester Tigers) and the recalled Danny Cipriani of Wasps.
