Knowing they had a target of 227 to beat, Hale Barns set off with a superb 90 from Joe Cooper, performing as well with the bat as with the ball, and 41 from Ben Hicks.

This was before the rain halted play however, with the game ending with Hale Barns stuck on a total of 223-7.

Five early wickets for 67 runs damaged Wayfarers chances of getting anything out of the game, with a respectable 40 from Khatteer Zeb being the only positive.

The loss means that Appleton close the gap on 4th place Wilmslow to 10 points, with Wayfarers sitting 13 points outside of the promotion places.

After choosing to field first, Edge rampantly dismissed 8 Marple batsmen for just 157, with Mark Warnes and Ben Lambert taking 3 and two wickets each.

A positive 51 and 41 for Marple batters Stewart Bass and James Massey helped the home side on their way, but a series of single figure scores hampered their chances.

Edge put in a brilliant performance with the bat, with George Bell scoring 71-not out and Jonny Scurrah reaching 60-not out as the Marple target was reached.

Promotion chasing Lindow 3rds fell to an unexpected defeat to Styal on Saturday, losing by just 1 wicket.

Ryan Johnston claimed a half century before being bowled by Adil Iman, with Dean cox and Hassan Mahmood also reaching 34 and 31. Juan Pardo impressed for the home side, claiming 4 wickets.

With a target of 182 to catch, Styal relied heavily on Adil Iman, whose 83 put them well on their way. A shared bowling effort wasn’t enough for Lindow, who will be regretting not continuing with the bat rather than declaring.

Lindow are now 50 points off the top 2 places, and face rivals Wilmslow Wayfarers at home next time out.
